ESTELA
Plenary Talk: CST in Central Europe: operation experience, economics, and options in Germany

Joachim Krüger, born in 1965 in Hamburg, is the founder and Managing Director of Solarlite Beteiligungs UG, one of the experienced companies in the field of concentrating solar thermal power (CSP). Solarlite is a manufacturer of components and general contractor for the realisation of projects with concentrating solar thermal energy. Founded in 2004, Solarlite is also entrusted with project development due to market conditions.
Joachim Krüger studied business administration at the Hamburg Business Academy and environmental sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Between 2005 and 2010, he completed his doctorate at the Naresuan University in Phitsanulok, Thailand, at the Solar Centre on the subject of the economic efficiency of parabolic trough systems.
Joachim Krüger has been working in the field of environmental technologies since 1997 and has realized solar projects in Thailand, South Africa and various European countries. His outstanding projects in the application of concentrated solar thermal energy include the construction of the first direct evaporation power plant using parabolic troughs. He has also initiated and realized applications for supplying process heat to industrial companies. In addition to commercial projects, he is committed to the continuous realization of R&D projects to further develop CSP technology and reduce costs. Joachim Krüger developed the composite parabolic trough, which guarantees particular accuracy and durability and simplifies assembly. He has several patents for technical developments and has realized numerous innovative projects such as zero-emission bungalows and direct solar desalination. With more than 20 years of experience in the CSP industry, Joachim Krüger sees it as his duty to pass on his knowledge and experience of the technology and its applications. He is therefore involved in various political and industry-related committees. He has been a board member of the German Concentrated Solar Power Industry Association (DCSP) since 2014 and Chairman since 2016. In 2024, the DCSP was merged into the BSW - German Solar Industry Association and Joachim Krüger was elected to the board. He has also been President of the European Concentrated Solar Thermal Energy Association (ESTELA) since 2023.
